Disappointing Evening: 02/06/09

Date added: 09/06/09

After a second place finish in the first heat of the club meeting at Oulton Broad on Thursday night Area 31 Racing had to retire from the rest of the evening due to a split fuel tank.

After a quick practice, Area 31 Racing driver David Jones got straight into the action flying through the field in heat one after starting well behind the first boat due to the handicap system. With the 1973 500cc Konig powered Cabover hydroplane sounding sweeter every week it was a fantastic race on a choppy Oulton Broad circuit, with David bringing the boat home in second position behind James Marr in the Yamato powered craft.

After a great first race the team were eager to get out for the second heat to see if they could improve on the second place. However as they were refueling the team noticed the aluminum fuel tank had split and was leaking. Disappointingly this was the end of the evening for the Area 31 Racing Team.

On a more positive note the team would like to thank everyone who came down to Oulton Broad for the National weekend and spent time looking at the classic boats that the team had on display. It was good to see faces young and old reliving memories of the past and providing information to new enthusiasts.

Area 31 Racing Team will admit however that they were shown up by friend Graham Cooke's powerful drag bike which was also in display and caught a lot of attention from passers by.
